Emulation

For my emulation I wanted to try and move away from the Disney theme to see where it would take me, and so i decided to do more simple fairground rides. From looking on Pinterest I got ideas and decided to do a helter skelter, taking ideas from different images. I drew it out the outlines and then added in detail on the heater skelter, and slight detail around the outside.
After doing this i used watercolour to add the colour and tone into the image. I tried to be as messy as I could when doing this, so the technique looked as close to my copy as possible.

To make it look like my copy, again I traced the the outlines of the helter skelter, making sure that the main lines were dominant. I then added in extra detail on the slide part itself and then on the ground. I tried to make sure these were less thick and added more depth to the image.
After placing both these in Photoshop I edited the levels, contrast, saturation and vibrance of the water-coloured image. This boosted the colours, making them more noticeable, ensuring they contrasted with each other.  I also experimented with the colours, and inverted the image to see what it looked like, but I decided to keep it the colours that it was.
After I was happy with how the water-coloured looked, I added in the pencil drawn image. At first it was very basic and I didn't think that the technique looked similar enough to my copy, so I decided to change the thickness of the lines, by upping the threshold of the image so that it was all black and had definite lines in it. This meant I did have have the colour of the pencil drawn out, so i selected the image and changed it to different tones of blue. At first I started with the lighter, prismatic blues but realised that was not effective for the design, so i went to the other end of the scale, using the more chromatic blues. I made sure that it was still clear the line was blue, but it was a darker more chromatic blue. After I was happy with the design as a whole, I added in a sepia coloured background.

Overall I am really happy with how the emulation turned out and think that the technique is something I will think about doing for the rest of the unit, to create my final piece.
